We'll get in front of great art all over New York City.
Major museums like the Guggenheim and the Metropolitan, the global players like Gagosian – all feature once-in-a-lifetime art exhibits and artists' retrospectives.
Dozens of small and mid-size galleries, as well as the Whitney Museum of American Art, present the best, most provocative artists in the country.
LOWER EAST SIDE
From small galleries, storefronts and pop-ups to long-standing institutions like the New Museum – often staging artists' first shows in New York.
We'll get to major exhibits, opening nights, artists' studios.
Bold, globally recognized, radically curated – galleries like Skarstedt, David Zwirner and dozens of others present the hottest art and artists in the world.
The Museum of Modern Art, itself a gem of the art world, is surrounded by extraordinary galleries that specialize in particular fields of art. Large shows, small shows, equally brilliant.
Artists studios, small galleries and collectives. Brooklyn neighborhoods are busy – storefronts, bars, hotel lobbies, pop-ups, public art, warehouses of working artists.
We'll get to artists' havens and hidden-away specialty bookstores
Neighborhood galleries with a long history, mid-size institutions born again – Harlem is home to a number of artists who present new work with progressive curators.
Two hours outside New York City, historically home and studio for many great artists, the Hamptons are a trip in itself. Wall-to-wall studios, galleries, art fairs, bookstores. (full-day fee on request)
New York is full of specialty bookstores featuring artists' books (highly coveted), signed editions and rare artifacts – from photograpy, print, sculpture and painting to select collections.
ABOUT JOHN GAGNÉ
Hello and Welcome!
New York is overwhelming. That’s part of its charm. So if you have a few hours and you really want to explore well-known and little-known gems of the art world, I’d invite you to ask me along.
Sharing my passion for art and artists across this city’s cultural wealth is a way to champion creativity, expression and achievement. The tour is relaxed, the conversation informal though rich with detail, history and observations on the art and artists we visit.
I’m a creative director in the advertising industry, an educator and mentor of professional design groups, an avid book collector and art collector. I spent a number of years traveling the world as a filmmaker and typographer. Happily married, my wife Joanne and I live in Brooklyn with our young boys.

Painters, sculptors, photographers, textile & ceramic artists, sound & video artists. Their materials and stories and sheer courage of the work they make is fascinating. And if you wish, you can acquire original art on the spot.
Great for professional groups, friends and family – though some wine and beer may be poured along the way.
